X-Treme, also known as Adam-X or Adam-X the X-Treme, is a Marvel Comics superhero. He was originally planned to be the rumored "third Summers brother" to siblings Cyclops and Havok, but that potential plot-twist was dropped when his creator, Fabian Nicieza stopped writing X-Men in 1995.

Origin

Adam Neramani is the son of the former emperor of the Shi'ar, D'Ken Neramani, and an unidentified non-Shi'ar woman. His mother is strongly believed to be human, and it has been suggested that she may have been Katherine Summers, the mother of the X-Men Cyclops and Havok, and wife of Corsair. After his birth on the Shi'ar world Ch'ylaritha, Adam was subjected to heavy genetic engineering to increase his physical potential to near superhuman levels, and to unlock his latent X-Gene. Under unrevealed circumstances, Adam was brought to the planet Ch'reesharaa, where he was left in the care of a farmer named Jonath; he grew into a young man, unaware of his parentage.

A rebellious youth, Adam eventually left his homeworld and fled the empire to each for the truth behind his non-Shi'ar heritage. Adam eventually arrived on Earth, where he encountered the mutant criminal Martin Strong, who dubbed him "Adam-X the X-Treme". Adam quickly fell in love with Strong's "employee" Neurotap and agreed to work for Strong, hunting down and capturing other mutants. An encounter with the mutant vigilante team X-Force led Adam to reconsider his new career, and he agreed to join the team in opposing Strong. In the ensuing confrontation, Neurotap betrayed Adam to side with Strong; though hurt and disillusioned, Adam rallied to defeat her, then aided X-Force's leader Cable in defeating Strong. After the battle, Cable extended an offer for Adam to join X-Force, but Adam turned him down, more concerned with his quest to learn where he came from.

Recent Storylines

Adam Neramani's recent activities remain mostly unrevealed, other than one instance in which he teamed with Captain Marvel (Genis-Vell) in a battle with the Shi'ar agent Eric the Red and a squad of Sidri hunters. During the battle, Eric informed Adam of his true parentage, and declared that as D'Ken's son, Adam was the true destined ruler of the Shi'ar Empire. Adam rejected this though, and used his mutant powers to apparently kill Eric. Adam and Genis parted ways as allies, and Adam presumably returned to exploring his history by roaming the Earth.

Powers

Adam Neramani is a hybrid Shi'ar/mutant human, genetically engineered to have the peak physical attributes of both species. As a result, he possesses slightly human strength, and agility and endurance that are far beyond human capability. He also possesses superhuman speed, able to run at speeds of roughly a mile a minute, and has superhuman eyesight, allowing him to see with precise clarity at a distance of up to a mile.

Adam's mutant ability allows him to send a bio-electric surge through oxygenated blood. He most often uses this ability offensively, to "flash-fry" an opponent through an open wound. When Adam is using his power at its full strength, this usually results in a violent death, as his victim's blood boils and their body ignites from the inside. When using his power offensively, Adam usually activates it with the trigger word "burn". Though he rarely does so, Adam can use his power in more passive ways as well; on one occasion, he used it to save the life of a hypothermia victim by heating the man's blood long enough to find proper medical care. When using his mutant power, Adam's eyes glow red.

Since offensive use of his mutant power requires his enemies to bleed, Adam wears a costume covered in blades, including two retractable ones attached to each of his arm. He also carries a variety of Thet’je blades, wickedly curved weapons of Shi'ar design.
