Professor X (Charles Xavier)
From Cassius Comics
Real Name: Charles Francis Xavier
See also Onslaught.
One of the first-known mutants, Charles Xavier is arguably the most powerful telepath on the planet. As a child, Xavier’s father was killed, and he grew up raised with his stepfather as well as his stepbrother Cain Marko. After his mother’s death, Xavier and Marko joined the Army and were stationed in Korea, where Xavier gained a reputation as a medic who never lost a member of his squadron, secretly thanks to his telepathy. While there, Marko located a temple to the Elder God Cytorrak, and he was transformed into the Juggernaut. Years later, Xavier began to wander the world, fathering a child who would later become Legion, and forging a friendship with Eric Lensherr, who would later become his greatest enemy in Magneto. Xavier was also involved in a car crash, which paralyzed him from the waist down. Returning to America, Xavier founded The Xavier Institute for Higher Learning, as well as the X-Men. He was thought to be dead for a time, but he was actually preparing for an alien invasion in The Shi'Ar Empire, and the man who died was actually the Changeling, whose identity was only known by Marvel Girl. While in space, he also fell in love with and wed Lilandra Neramani, who he would help become Majestrix of the Shi'Ar, but their romance was doomed to fall apart when he returned to Earth. There marriage was annulled much later by the Shi'Ar when Earth was designated a prison planet and isolated from the rest of the Universe. Later, Xavier actually did die when he was transformed into a Brood Queen, but his consciousness was revived in a cloned body with full use of his legs; he was once again paralyzed by the alien Lucifer. Recently, Xavier’s legs were seemingly healed once again by Xorn, but in fact he was merely being held together by microscopic Sentinels; Xorn unmasked and claimed to be Magneto, and he once again crippled Xavier before taking over a large part of New York City. After Xorn’s defeat and subsequent death, Xavier lost his faith and traveled to the remains of Genosha where he founded a new Excalibur. He was reunited with the X-Men when he was attacked by the creature known as Danger, but immediately after the conflict the team turned their back on him, having discovered that Xavier had essentially enslaved the intelligent AI that would become Danger, forcing it to serve as the X-Men's training facility the Danger Room.
Xavier possesses the ability to read minds, communicate soundlessly, control others mentally, project a psionic form onto the astral plane or disable others with blasts of mental energy among other abilities. He also built Cerebro, a machine that allows him to locate and track mutants anywhere on Earth; Cerebro eventually gained sentience, and Xavier was forced to destroy it, replacing it with Cerebra, an upgraded version of the original.
Xavier is completely bald. He is one a member of a secret cabal of superhumans that monitors and guides the rest of their kind; his peers in the group consist of Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Tony Stark (Iron Man), Dr. Strange, Namor and the Black Bolt. Xavier is the founder and former leader of the X-Men and the X-Corporation, and a former advisor to the X-Statix. He is also Cassandra Nova’s twin brother and Lilandra Neramani’s former husband.
