The former White Queen of the Hellfire Club, Emma Frost reformed and joined the X-Men after going through a secondary stage to her mutation. Accepted onto the teaching staff of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning, Frost quickly became the mentor of the Stepford Cuckoos, a group of quintuplet telepaths. She also began to seduce her married teammate Scott Summers (Cyclops), and the two engaged in a psychic affair behind his wife Jean Grey (Phoenix)'s back. Frost was nearly killed when her diamond form was shattered by a bullet fired by Beak, who was being mentally controlled by the Cuckoo Esme, but her body was reassembled by Phoenix and the Beast. With one Cuckoo having abandoned the school and another having died to stop Kid Omega's anti-human riot, the remaining Stepford Cuckoos turned on Frost, and revealed her affair to Grey. Infuriated, Grey attacked Frost on the psychic plane, easily overpowering her due to her connection to the Phoenix Force. Grey forced Frost to relive the absolute worst moments of her life, exposing her deepest and darkest secrets. Before Frost and Grey could truly settle their differences, Grey was killed by Xorn; Frost and Summers officially became a couple, and with Professor X off helping to rebuild Genosha, the pair became headmaster and headmistress of the reopened Xavier Institute. Continuing on as both an X-Man and a teacher (with the ironic subject of ethics), Frost also began to correspond with a shadowy group of individuals who have just recently been revealed as the current incarnation of the Hellfire Club.

Frost is a powerful telepath, and she possesses the superhuman ability to transform into an organic diamond form. In that form, she is immune to hunger and thirst, and under certain circumstances she can survive being shattered.
