Real Name: Steven Rogers, alias Steven Grant, Roger Stevens.

In the early 1940s, the un-athletic teenager Steve Rogers foresaw America’s inevitable entry into World War II and tried to enlist in the American military, only to be turned down as physically unfit to serve. Undaunted, Rogers volunteered for Project: Rebirth and was given the Super Soldier Serum, an experimental formula which transformed him into the perfect physical specimen. After months of training, Rogers was selected to become a living symbol of liberty named Captain America and he was given a triangular shield adorned with the American red, white and blue. This shield was eventually replaced by his current circular shield, which was presented to him by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Joined by a teenaged sidekick codenamed Bucky, Rogers became a figurehead for American forces overseas. Rogers and Bucky were founding members of the Invaders, America’s first team of superheroes. Near the end of the war, Rogers and Bucky were sent to prevent Baron Zemo (Heinrech) from stealing an experimental plane. Zemo launched the plane, and Rogers and Bucky were in the process of trying to stop it when the jet exploded. While Bucky was caught in the explosion and was seemingly killed, Rogers fell into the sea and was frozen in suspended animation. Sealed inside an iceberg, Rogers became stuck on an arctic ice flow were he was found by a group of Inuit. Soon after, he was found by Namor, who was disoriented from air bubbles in his brain, and thus did not recognize his former teammate from the Invaders. Namor threw Rogers’ frozen form back into the sea, where was eventually discovered and revived by the Avengers just after the team’s formation. He joined and was quickly became the leader when the founding members chose to leave the team; Rogers later was retroactively declared to be a founding member himself. During a mission on the Island of the Exiles, Rogers had his mind transferred into the body of the Red Skull (Johann Shmidt), who claimed Roger’s body as his own. The Skull began a plan to send petty criminal Sam “Snap” Wilson against Rogers, but Rogers took the man under his wing, training him and giving him the alias “the Falcon”. The Red Skull eventually switched his and Rogers’ minds back into their proper bodies, allowing Rogers and the Falcon to defeat him. Although the two heroes parted ways, Rogers and the Falcon met on two later occasions soon afterwards, first when Rogers cleared the Falcon’s name after he was framed for murder by the Diamond-Head gang, and later in a mutual battle against M.O.D.O.K.. The second meeting led to the two heroes forming an official partnership, and an enduring friendship. During the Kree/Shi-Ar war, a number of Avengers refused to follow Rogers’ orders, he left the team, later returning during their encounter with the Gatherers. Soon after, the super-soldier serum in Roger’s veins began to break down, causing him to age with extreme rapidity. At first, Rogers wore a protective exoskeleton so that he could continue his career as Captain America, but soon even that proved to be insufficient. Rogers actually died, but was soon revived in a cloned body courtesy of the Red Skull. In his new body, Rogers possessed all of his former heightened abilities, and the flaw in the Super Soldier serum that had killed him had been corrected. Rogers defeated the Red Skull and returned to his career as a hero. He was one of the many heroes seemingly killed in battle against Onslaught, and was transported to Counter-Earth. He returned with the rest of the displaced heroes, and resumed his role as leader of the Avengers. In the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001, Rogers once again revealed his identity to the world, and began to spend more of his time fighting terrorists and other non-super powered criminals. During a recent battle Rogers discovered that Bucky was still alive, and had in fact been used as a black ops agent of the Russian government since being rescued from Zemo's exploding plane.

Rogers possesses strength, speed, agility, reflexes and endurance equal to the pinnacle of human capabilities and a retarded aging factor which greatly extends his lifespan. His bodily functions work at peak human efficiency and he eliminates fatigue-inducing poisons in his muscles at a rate so accelerated that he basically never tires. A nearly unparalleled hand-to-hand combatant trained in a number of martial arts disciplines, Rogers also possesses arguably the keenest military mind in the world. He is an expert pilot, acrobat and gymnast, and received basic military training during World War II as well as additional training in demolition and other skills. On rare occasions, Rogers carries a combat knife. He is also a master marksman when throwing his shield. Rogers is a high school graduate with one year of art school. Rogers often rides a custom-built Harley Davidson motorcycle with S.H.I.E.L.D. modifications. He also owns and uses a Chevrolet van that has been retrofitted by the Wakandan Design Group, and has access to the Avengers’ Quinjets.

Rogers' shield is created out of a one of a kind adamantium/vibranium alloy which absorbs all physical trauma directed at it. It is two and a half feet in diameter, and weighs twelve pounds, and possesses incredible aerodynamic properties, allowing Rogers to throw it and allow it to rebound with minimal loss of angular motion. The shield is virtually indestructible, immune to all temperature extremes and known forms of radiation. The only thing that has ever damaged it was a full-strength hit from Thor’s hammer, which caused a large dent that Thor later repaired; theoretically, the shield could also be destroyed by a direct breakdown of its molecular structure. Rogers has trained with the shield to such an extent that he can use it as fluidly as if it were an extension of his own body.

Although Rogers is usually equated with his indestructible circular shield, he has carried four other models over the years. During World War II, he carried a triangular steel shield which was eventually destroyed years later by Mr. Hyde during the Masters of Evil’s siege of Avengers Mansion. At one time he carried a circular shield similar to his traditional model, but made up of simple steel. During a period of time in which his normal shield was lost at the bottom of the ocean, Rogers first used a replica of his first shield which he was given by the Smithsonian Institute. Finally, Rogers wore a gauntlet which he contained the ability to project a wrist-mounted energy shield which he could also fire as a javelin-like projectile. His “indestructible” shield was retrieved from the ocean’s depths by Iron Man but it shattered, serving as a harbinger to the destabilization of all of the world’s vibranium. He used his duct-taped together shield to attempt to cure the vibranium epidemic in Wakanda were he was attacked by Klaw. Klaw charged at him, and miraculously, the villain’s pure sound form fused the shield back into its previous state of imperviousness. Rogers was able to defeat Klaw, repair the world’s vibranium and has never used a different shield since. Rogers is seen a leader of the superhuman community by the public, and he usually acts as an undisputed leader in times of crisis. He is a moderately talented artist. Rogers revealed his true identity years ago, but an enemy of his telepathically erased the knowledge from the minds of every civilian on Earth. After the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center from September 11, 2001, and the subsequent unity that was briefly enjoyed in New York City, Rogers’ belief in the American dream was reenergized, and he once again revealed his true identity to the world. Rogers has blonde hair and blue eyes. He is six foot two inches tall and weighs two hundred and twenty pounds. Rogers is fluent in Russian and German. He was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1922, where he still lives today.

Rogers is the leader and retroactively declared founding member of the Avengers, the former leader of the Invaders and the Redeemers, a former unwilling member of the Queen’s Vengeance, and a former special agent for both the American army and S.H.I.E.L.D.. He is a part owner of a diner in Brooklyn, New York, and has previously worked as a WPA artist, NYPD officer, teacher, and as a freelance illustrator for Marvel Comics.
